Knowledge Level of Contact Lens Management and Practice Level of Management Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Focused on Some Optometrists

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge level of contact lenses (CL) management and practice level of education of management for some optometrists in the COVID-19 situation and to provide basic data for prevention of COVID-19.
Methods : Among the data responding to the online survey from March to June 2021, the participants of the survey were 122 optometrists who had worked as domestic optometrists for more than a year. Average age of the subjects was 29.80¡¾6.92 years (75 males and 47 females). The survey was constructed 27 questionnaires including the general characteristics, knowledge levels of COVID-19 (0 to 2 points) and CL management (0 to 2 points), practice level of education management for the prevention of COVID-19 infection (0 to 3 points).
Results : The knowledge of COVID-19, CL management, practice level of education of management was an average of 1.61¡¾0.30, 1.69¡¾0.29, and 2.45¡¾0.45 points, respectively. Knowledge of COVID-19, the 'Symptoms of COVID-19' (1.93¡¾0.34 points) showed the highest knowledge level, but 'The pathogen of COVID-19 is SARS-CoV-2' showed the lowest score (1.18¡¾0.70 points). Knowledge of CL management showed the highest score in ¡®Cleaning and rinsing are essential guidelines for CL management¡¯ (1.98¡¾0.13 points). In practice, general CL management rules were followed well, but 'Educated to stop wearing CL if you have a flu, fever, cough, or other body aches¡¯ showed a lowest level (1.71¡¾1.10 points).
Conclusion : In the COVID-19 pandemic, the general CL management guidelines of some optometrist have shown high knowledge and practice levels, while some items have low scores, which is considered to require the development and education of specialized items to prevent infection.
